Fishing on Lough Derg

Expect to catch bream, skimmers, roach, hybrids, tench, perch and pike. Access on foot is restricted along the northern shoreline of this 26-mile long lake and that’s a pity because the standard of fishing can be excellent. To get a crack at catching big roach, hybrids and bream, the best idea is to hire a boat locally and get involved with some serious pre-baiting. Almost all of the big catches have been made on feeder gear. Pike fishing on Derg is outstanding with lots of big fish to be had.

Bank fishing space will be found at the various cruiser marinas around the lake. On the Tipperary side of the lakes the best fishing is at Garrykennedy, Dromineer and Terryglass. On the County Clare side there is good mixed fishing at Scarriff and Mountshannon.
