Longford is 'Big Fish' country with exciting prospects offered by some of the Shannon's most famous hot-spots like Lanesborough, Tarmonbarry weir and the Kilglass Lakes system near Strokestown. There are dozens of lakes offering quality bream, tench, hybrids, roach, rudd and huge pike. The northern end of the county takes in several of the top class Gowna lakes.
Strokestown lies on the border of counties Longford and Roscommon, this attractive town is located in the heart of superb bream, rudd and tench fishing. English angler Geoff Cooper has chosen this area as his home and knows the water extremely well. Put in a little effort and you can enjoy great sport in little fished waters of great potential. Boat hire can often be a bonus for better access on some lakes.
Upper Erne waters like Gowna are within a short drive.
