With its giant forest and thousands of fishing waters, the province of Värmland in western Sweden really is a total fishing experience for sports fishermen and nature lovers. Expect undulating landscapes and rich flora and fauna where you can have your own fishing idyll.
Sweden’s mightiest river, the Klarälven, runs through the length of Värmland and at its northern and southern ends offers exciting fishing. Northern Klarälven’s mountainous terrain is famous for lake pike fishing and challenging grayling fishing. The central and western parts of the province offer lake fishing for pike, asp, zander and perch and some big fish have been caught here. The south-east part of the province around Säffle is rich in many species of coarse fish. The Byalven River is deep and slow flowing, passing through rich farmland. It meanders through super rich Harlsjohn Lake before entering Lake Vanern just below the town of Saffle. Big Asp are caught in spring and right through summer of fly and lure tactics. Cottages invariably come with boat rental for better access to a wealth of fishing. Bream, rudd, hybrids, and tench can be caught from the bank at Byalven Cottages. Good pike, perch and zander fishing too.
