Owned and managed by the Coray family Silver Salmon Creek Lodge offers full board, guided fishing, guided brown bear and general wildlife viewing and is an ideal place for photography. There is excellent fly fishing for Coho Salmon.

Martin Founds has visited Silver Salmon Creek Lodge on a number of occasions. On a visit with John Horsey they fished small stunning creeks teeming with fresh run silver salmon (coho) in addition to chum salmon and char. This is fly fishing at it's best using streamer and surface flies on floating lines and 8 weight rods.

August is the prime time and our trip coincided with one of the biggest salmon runs on record. Every pool was full of fresh run salmon; Coho, pinks and chum. These fish would actively attack a fly. Oliver, our guide, tied up some pink and white clouser patterns and it was possible to be selective by sight fishing. The bigger Coho would also hit large surface patterns not as frequently but so exciting when they take. The upper creek has some excellent char (Dolly Varden) fishing too using egg patterns and they will also take dry fly patterns. For fresh taking silver salmon on the fly you will not beat this experience.

This area also offers the finest coastal brown bear viewing on the planet. Coastal Brown Bears (Grizzlies) also fish and feed all around the lodge. Martin was accompanied by a fellow angler and adventurer, Chris Tarrant and they had a unique experience of having bears literally just a few feet away. Amazing photo opportunities! The bears totally ignored us, often leaving their cubs close to us whilst they went fishing. The greatest threat to bear cubs comes from other adult bears. Bears and humans have co-existed here for over 3 decades without incident. Respect is the keyword. It is their domain.

The opportunity to view and photograph the bears up close and personal is an amazing experience. Guides will explain the protocols as this is the bear’s habitat and we are just visitors. Rich feeding on grasses, clams and salmon ensures a stable bear population and most resident bears are mothers with cubs who are free to wander around the lodge grounds at their leisure!

The main lodge offers a comfortable lounge, bar and restaurant; which provides excellent home cooked meals (three per day are included). Accommodation is in individually furnished cabins (1, 2 and 3 bedrooms) adjacent to the main lodge. Each cabin has an en-suite bathroom. Satellite internet is available in the main lodge.

There are also optional tented adventure nights at Shelter Creek. Accessed as an extension from the main lodge this stunning creek with its magnificent back drop is just 10 miles down the coast. Guests can fly in directly or take a short boat transfer from the lodge. The camp is staffed throughout August and the salmon fishing here is exceptional and the bear viewing amazing. Coho, Pinks and Chum run fresh from the sea with the first pool only yards from the sea. Great fly action for taking fish. This offers a great true wilderness experience. Three meals a day are included and accommodation is in comfortable tents/beds. There are no showers and an outdoor toilet. One or two night stays are recommended added onto the main lodge trip.

Whilst filming here Martin and John Horsey caught fresh, bright salmon in black Coneheads and pink/white Clouser patterns. These are taking fish and hook up properly. 7 weight, 10 foot single handed rod perfect. Have plenty of backing as these salmon will run 100 yards plus. Take a saltwater reel – John had great action fishing for big silver Coho and Chum salmon at the creek mouth casting into the breakers. Salmon do not come fresher than this!

Good guides really make a trip... Our guides were the best ever.. Oliver was our fishing guide - a first class fly angler with immense knowledge. Brian and Dave were our Bear Guides - again first class. Really nice people.

Fly in only from Anchorage and Soldotna. The landing strip at the lodge is the beach! This is a real fly in wilderness.

Note this lodge sells out fast; there is limited capacity and extremely high demand. Early booking is essential.

Flights from UK to Anchorage are not included.
