With stunning scenery and world class sport Canada offers excellent opportunities for game fishing, with its vast and diverse landscapes providing habitats for a variety of fish species.
Lake Trout & Pike in the Yukon
Experience this wildlife wonderland with world class fly and lure fishing in one of the last great frontiers. Our featured venue is Kluane Wilderness Lodge which is situated on one of the richest lakes in northwest Canada. Wellesley Lake is a prolific natural lake of 60 square miles with endless fishing areas to satisfy just 12 fishing guests. It does not get any more exclusive than this.
Kluane Lodge is accessible by floatplane from Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. Our packages are 7 nights 6 days fishing at the lodge and accommodation prior and post trip in Whitehorse. Flights from the UK are not included.
Fishing at Kluane Lodge is a hands-on experience. You are supplied a boat for two anglers and fuel. The ability to operate your own small boat is important. Average Lake Trout at Kluane weigh in at better than 15lb, 40 pounders seldom raise an eyebrow and there is more than enough 50lb plus fish to wear you out!
Pike in Wellesley Lake are prolific to say the least with bigger pike taken on larger streamers, spoons, surface plugs and jerk bait lures in nine to 20 feet depths. Pike to 20lb plus are caught and released each season but are more common in the 4 to 15lb range.
Steelhead and Salmon Fishing on the Skeena & Kalum Rivers, British Columbia
Fly further north to Terrace to fish pristine rivers like the Skeena and Kalum Rivers for prime salmon and steelhead trout. Large runs of all five species of pacific salmon and Steelhead return to the Skeena region every year.
The Kalum River is known for some big Steelhead from mid-March to early May. Late April to early May there are Steelhead and Chinook salmon in the river. The record Chinook for the May fishery is 83lb. In addition, there is some great trout fishing as the trout move around the rivers chasing emerging salmon fry.
Summer Chinook fishing starts mid-June and goes until mid-August. This is the main run for King salmon and has produced world record fish over the years, the largest being over 99lb. By mid-July you can fish for Steelhead, Sockeye, Pink and Chum Salmon.
Early August to mid-September is a great time for fishing on the Skeena river for Coho, Sockeye and Pink Salmon. This is an easy river to wade and fish at this time. It is also a favourable time for water conditions and weather.
Kalum River Lodge is our chosen accommodation. Situated right on the banks of the world-renowned Skeena River, just east of Terrace, it offers guests the best location and comfort along with excellent fishing guides who are all long-time local anglers with a wealth of knowledge on the techniques and tactics to give you the best fishing experience possible.
Your holiday includes 7 nights/6 days fully guided fishing, full board accommodation in twin rooms and return transfers from Terrace Airport. Flights from the UK are not included.
Sturgeon and Salmon Fishing on the Fraser River, British Columbia
British Columbia has stunning scenery and excellent Sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River. The largest sturgeon caught on record was caught on the Fraser River, in British Columbia, and weighed an estimated 1,832lbs and measured 12 feet, 4 inches.
The Fraser River is also renowned for its salmon fishing, including Chinook (King), Coho (Silver), Sockeye, Pink, and Chum salmon. Salmon runs typically occur during specific seasons. Chinook salmon, for example, can be targeted from spring to autumn, while sockeye salmon are often targeted in the summer.
The Fraser River and its tributaries are also home to various trout species, including rainbow trout. Trout fishing can be good throughout the year, but spring and autumn are often considered prime times.
Cascade Fishing Adventures are our working partners on the magnificent Fraser River. They are based at Chilliwack just 90 minutes’ drive from Vancouver. Generally, holidays are 7 accommodation nights, room only and 6 full days guided fishing, although you can extend your stay. Boats, guides, transfers, bait and tackle are all included. Flights from UK are not included.
