Most clients arrive on the North Island at Auckland. An excellent starting point. Auckland is a friendly cosmopolitan city with great shops, restaurant and of course superb guided fishing (fly and lure) in the huge natural harbour. Kingfish are the main quarry but Kawahi are also prolific, fight hard on light tackle. Both species can be caught on streamer fly patterns, soft plastic jigs and lures. Fishing is from fast well equipped boats in sheltered waters and guides can provide tackle if required. We feature a wide choice of quality hotels in this beautiful city. Accommodation can be in hotels or private accommodation.
After spending a few days in Auckland take a 4 hour scenic drive south to the Rotorua area. Rotorua is considered the Maori Capital of New Zealand. A strong cultural heritage centre.
Explore further south and you find fish filled creeks and small rivers around Rotorua. Access is principally from private land and if you are not fishing with a guide permission must be obtained. Good guides know the best access and pools where fly fishing for quality brown trout and rainbow trout is assured. The cold water creeks and streams provide nymph fishing whilst the warmer waters offer excellent dry fly fishing. In the Tongariro National Parks region there are excellent rivers and some cracking lakes like Big O renown for big rainbow trout.
