Half the size of England and Wales but with a population just 100th the size! Known as 'Australia’s biggest nature reserve' with almost 45% of the landmass protected by national parks, reserves and World Heritage status Tasmania is 226 miles long and 190 miles wide. It encompasses the best of Australia in one easy to discover region, full of history and character, abundant in wildlife and where everyone appears to smile and is most welcoming.
Beautiful scenery, peaceful countryside, majestic mountains of Ben Lomond and Wellington, the high plateau of the Central Highlands and the last major tract of temperate rainforest on earth to rich rolling hills and farmlands of the lowlands, Tasmania links to old England and Scotland are clear to see, but with eucalyptus trees and unique wildlife!
The lakes, creeks and small rivers literally teem with wild brown trout and rainbows, introduced almost 200 years ago. Some of the purest strains on earth. The quality of the fly fishing on still and flowing waters is unrivalled and the season long. One of the main benefits is that the Tasmanian summer falls during the UK winter.
PASSPORTS Ensure your passport is valid for your trip. Most destinations insist that your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after your return flight. It is important that you check both your issue date and expiry date on your passport. If you have renewed your passport early in the past, the passport office could have added these extra months to your expiry date. Some countries, particularly in the EU, do not recognise these extra months. You should assume that your passport validity is 10 years from the date of issue.
All UK passport holders must have a tourist visa (ETA) obtained online. You are advised to obtain prior to booking flights.
