Sam Rohrer's  Camp is situated in the heart of the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. Kodiak Island is located in the Gulf of Alaska approximately 250 miles SW of Anchorage. Kodiak Island, also known as the Emerald Isle, has an incredible array of land and marine wildlife, in addition to offering unsurpassed fishing for salmon, trout and char. It is the 2nd largest island in the USA.

Home of the famous Kodiak Brown Bear, Kodiak island boasts one of the highest Brown bear concentrations in the world, which yields Rohrer Bear Camp perfect for wildlife viewing & watching! No other bear camp in Alaska has quite the experience of Sam Rohrer’s Bear Camp. "As lifelong Alaskan’s, it is our desire to share our home and love of Kodiak Island with others. We provide a fully guided wilderness experience for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and sport fisherman. We specialize in small groups and make personal attention a priority."

All trips are one guide per two to four guests with generally a maximum of 4 to 6 guests in camp. The camp provides a rustic wilderness experience in a stunning location just a short flight by float plane from Kodiak. Clients take a schedule flight from Anchorage to Kodiak and must have at least one night in Kodiak at the start of the trip, The Best Western Hotel is an ideal choice. Extra luggage may be left at the hotel which boasts ensuite rooms and an excellent bar and restaurant.

Guests come to Rohrer to experience amazing Salmon fishing, in particular big hard fighting Coho (silvers) on a fly. Dolly Varden and rainbow trout are common too and provide great action, all on single handed rods in small river with shallow glides and deeper holding pools. Fishing is best from August through September. This small river offers big Coho Salmon with fish to 20 pounds. Spinning is allowed (gold number 3 Mepps) but most guests fly fish with egg sucking leech patterns (in black and purple colours) and Clousers (pink and white or green and white) on size 4 to 6 barbless single hooks.

Some guests do travel over in July principally for wildlife viewing and those same creeks that stack up with fresh migrating salmon have reasonable to good char and rainbow trout. Pink and chum salmon run around this time too.

Holiday durations can be from 3 nights to 7 nights at the camp. A night upon arrival in Kodiak is often necessary.
Sample price includes a night in Anchorage and Kodiak City in each direction. Total duration 10/11 nights.
