Samara, Nicoya Peninsula

Exceptional fishing for cubera, roosterfish, jacks, amberjack and dorado.

Accommodation:
The hotel “Pension de la Playa” is very quiet, with swimming pool, situated in the village centre, 100m from the beach and all amenities. A friendly place with comfortable rooms all air-conditioned and with cable TV. Breakfast and packed lunch whilst fishing are included.

Boats:
Boats are either the Boston Whaler or the smaller Contender boat and feature a Bimini top sun cover plus all necessary navigation and safety equipment. Tackle can be supplied for a nominal fee, but must be pre-booked.

Getting There:
You will be met and collected from San Jose Airport or from your hotel if you have booked one night's accommodation in San Jose. After a three and half hour drive in an air-conditioned van with beverages, you will arrive at your hotel in Samara on the Pacific Coast.

Fishing:
For casting and jigging - fish inshore along rocks and over features up to 30 miles on the south of Samara and 30 miles to the North. There are more than 4,000gps fishing spots for inshore fishing. Fish for cubera, roosterfish, jacks, amberjack, and dorado. There is no marina, which means there are very few boats and low fishing pressure!
Offshore fishing is also available.
20 minutes from Samara the fishing for sailfish, marlin, dorado, and tuna is excellent. Best time is November to May.
Methods include popping, jigging and trolling. Yellowfin tuna arrive November to December and again in May. Fishing hours - 07:00 to 16:00. Closed September and October (heavy rains).
