The Cork Small Boats Festival is a ‘bring your own boat’ angling festival that is fished as a four day species hunt. The team that manage to capture the most different species of fish (to size limits) are deemed champions.
Each day boats launch from Aghada and fish the waters of Cork Harbour and beyond. There are over forty species that can be chased and many of these can be caught within the harbour itself. Cork harbour is an immense area. From the upper estuaries to the open sea is a distance of over twelve nautical miles. Cork Small Boats showcases the diversity of fish species with anglers catching more than forty different species of fish over the course of the event. Each year there tends to be a number of exceptional or specimen fish caught.
2022 Festival Dates are 9th to 16th September
Typical Schedule:
Friday – arrival.
Saturday – fishing practice; check-in and briefing in Jim Gallagher’s Bar.
Sunday – match start or practice depending on weather forecast.
Monday to Thursday – match fishing.
Thursday night – presentation of prizes
