Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice, Panama offers a variety of fishing opportunities, from offshore big game fishing to inshore fishing in its coastal waters. The variety of species and fishing techniques ensures all anglers requirements are fully catered for.

The Gulf of Chiriqui is one of Panama's premier fishing destinations, known for its pristine waters and abundant marine life. This area is famous for offshore big game fishing and anglers often target species like marlin, sailfish, tuna, and dorado. In addition to offshore opportunities, the Chiriqui region provides excellent options for inshore fishing. Roosterfish, known for their powerful fights, are a popular catch in the inshore waters. Other inshore species include snapper, snook, amberjack and tarpon.

The dry season, which typically runs from December to March, is considered the prime time for offshore fishing in Chiriqui. However, inshore fishing can be productive throughout the year. Rainy season is generally April to September with July being the wettest month.

We offer independent fishing trips with tailor made itineraries, in conjunction with Paradise Fishing Lodge. Paradise Lodge operates the latest fully equipped boats, top tackle and expert crew and guides. Fully guided fishing for groups of 2 to 4 anglers per boat. Amazing blue water sport at a first class family owned and operated lodge close to the prime fishing grounds.

This is a multi-method location; surface popping, casting sub surface lures, bait fishing and trolling. Some salt water fly fishing.

We generally recommend a 6 night, 5-day fishing trip with a night in Panama City. (7 nights in all).

Passport validity:
If you’re visiting Panama, your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the day you plan to leave Panama. Your passport must have at least one blank page.

It is important that you check both your issue date and expiry date on your passport. If you have renewed your passport early in the past, the passport office could have added these extra months to your expiry date. Some countries, particularly in the EU, do not recognise these extra months. You should assume that your passport validity is 10 years from the date of issue.

Make sure immigration officials properly stamp your passport with the date you arrived the country.

At Panamanian border control, you may need to:
• give the address of your accommodation and a contact telephone number
• show a return or onward ticket – particularly if you arrive by land from Costa Rica and are not a legal resident of Costa Rica
• prove you have at least 1000 US dollars (or the same amount in other currencies) or a credit card

Visa:
You can visit Panama for up to 3 months without a visa if you arrive by land or air. There are different visa requirements for sea arrivals.

Airport Tax:
There is a charge of 40 US dollars on departure. This is usually included in your airline ticket fare. Check with your airline.

Vaccine requirements:
To enter Panama, you must have a certificate to prove you’ve had a yellow fever vaccination if you’re coming from a country listed as a transmission risk. For full details about medical entry requirements and recommended vaccinations, see TravelHealthPro’s Panama guide.
