Description

Surrounded by the Delta’s ever-changing landscapes, Duba Plains Explorer Camp sits on a secluded island where permanent floodplains meet open grasslands and pockets of mopane and acacia woodland. Clear views across winding water channels allow cooling breezes to flow through camp, enhancing its relaxed, open-air atmosphere.

At the heart of the camp lies a spacious, raised marquee tent where guests gather to dine, unwind, and share stories of the day’s sightings. The open-plan lounge and dining areas reflect a classic safari style, evoking the romance of early African expeditions while maintaining a light, contemporary touch.

Accommodation is intentionally intimate, with just five canvas tents elevated on wooden decking. Each tent is airy and elegantly furnished with campaign-style pieces, a writing desk, and a private veranda complete with a daybed. En-suite bathrooms and discreet, eco-friendly air-conditioning ensure comfort without compromising the camp’s natural feel.

Days are shaped by a variety of immersive safari activities, offering guests the chance to explore both land and water. Glide silently through papyrus-lined channels in a traditional mokoro canoe, or venture out by boat along the Ngoga River system, where hippos and elephants have carved pathways through the waterways. Seasonal catch-and-release fishing adds another layer of discovery to the Delta’s rich ecosystem.

On land, open 4×4 safari drives traverse floodplains, grasslands, and woodlands, bringing guests close to Botswana’s iconic wildlife. The area is home to thriving populations of elephant, buffalo, lions, leopards, and wild dogs. Guided walking safaris offer a more intimate perspective, revealing the smaller details of the bush—from animal tracks to medicinal plants and bird calls.

Evenings at camp are just as memorable. As darkness settles, the sounds of the wild take over—the distant roar of lions, the grunts of hippos, and, if you’re fortunate, the splash of an otter moving through the channels under the stars.
