Belize Fishing Holidays

World Class fly fishing for bonefish, permit and tarpon. Excellent lure fishing for snook and a variety of jacks.

Discover world-class fishing holidays in Belize

Belize offers outstanding sea fishing thanks to its long Caribbean coastline, hundreds of offshore cayes and its location beside the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest barrier reef in the world. These rich waters support a huge variety of species, making Belize a popular destination for anglers.

Offshore fishing can produce marlin, sailfish, dorado (mahi-mahi), wahoo and tuna, while nearshore reefs hold barracuda, kingfish, snapper, grouper and jacks. On the shallow flats, anglers target the famous trio of bonefish, tarpon and permit. Belize is particularly renowned for its Grand Slam fishing — catching all three species in a single day.

Flexible and comfortable fishing accommodation

Our chosen base is Placencia in southern Belize, a relaxed coastal town perfectly located for exploring the surrounding flats, reefs and mangrove systems.

From here, anglers can access superb fly-fishing grounds on nearby atolls and flats, where bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and jacks are regularly encountered. Inshore fishing in the mangrove-lined Monkey River also offers exciting sport, particularly for snook, smaller tarpon and jacks.

Placencia also provides comfortable accommodation and a good range of shops, bars and restaurants.

Inclusive tailor-made angling holidays

Guided fishing is essential to make the most of the area. Experienced local guides operate purpose-built flats boats and have an in-depth understanding of tides, seasonal movements and the best fishing locations, as well as the current regulations.

Fishing is good year-round. Bonefish are always present, permit fishing is strong through much of the year, and tarpon fishing is best from April to August. The prime months to achieve a Grand Slam are June, July and August.

With its warm Caribbean climate, stunning clear waters and exceptional variety of fish, Belize offers anglers a unique and unforgettable fishing experience.

What you can expect to catch on a fishing holiday in Belize

Bonefish

One of the most sought-after flats species, famous for their speed and sharp eyesight. Hooking a bonefish often results in blistering runs across the flats, earning them the nickname “the grey ghost.”

Snook

Powerful inshore predators commonly found around mangroves, river mouths and coastal lagoons. They are aggressive feeders that strike both flies and lures and are known for hard fights and explosive surface takes.

Tarpon

These large, silver fish are famous for their size, strength and incredible aerial leaps once hooked. They can grow to well over 100lb and provide an unforgettable challenge for fly and lure anglers alike.

Permit

Widely considered one of the most challenging flats fish to catch, they are extremely wary and require precise presentations. Once hooked permit are powerful fighters, making them a prized catch for experienced anglers.
