Exceptional fishing for cubera, roosterfish, jacks, amberjack and dorado in Samara, Costa Rica.
For casting and jigging – fish inshore along rocks and over features up to 30 miles on the south of Samara and 30 miles to the North. There are more than 4,000gps fishing spots for inshore fishing. Fish for cubera, roosterfish, jacks, amberjack, and dorado. There is no marina, which means there are very few boats and low fishing pressure!
Offshore fishing is also available for larger species like sailfish, marlin, dorado (mahi mahi) and yellowfin tuna. Yellowfin tuna arrive November to December and again in May. Fishing hours – 07:00 to 16:00. Closed September and October (heavy rains).
Tackle can be hired and there is a good selection of both rods and lures in resort. Each year new rods are tested and there are around 120 rods at the lodge (Smith, Daiwa, Hearty rise, Penn). For light fishing and experts, they have 30lbs rods, usual ones are 50-60lbs and dedicated for Cubera, tuna like 80 lbs. There are also some slow jigging roads. Lures such as feed popper, ice cream, ranger flapper, stick bait are very effective. In Costa Rica we do recommend to use lures in the path of 60-150gr and 15-25cm. Not too big lure except some popper for cuberas when we do need to make some surface noise.
Access.
A choice of flights but the British Airways direct flight is an excellent option.
You will be met and collected from San Jose Airport or from your hotel if you have booked one night’s accommodation in San Jose. After a three and half hour drive in an air-conditioned van with beverages, you will arrive at your hotel in Samara on the Pacific Coast.
