Description
Sorvaer Fishing Centre is located on the south-western tip of Soroya in northern Norway, approximately 10.7 miles from Hasvik, the nearest airport.
Accommodation
Cabins include two bedrooms with two bunk beds per room and a sleeping loft with two single beds. They have a fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Each cabin has a porch with lake view and outdoor furniture.
The guest house has two floors with each floor having five bedrooms with two single beds per room. Each floor also has a fully equipped kitchen, two toilets and two showers. Television and Wi-Fi are available on each floor. There is a balcony (floor 2) and veranda (floor 1) with outdoor furniture and impressive lake views.
Bed linen and towels are provided and Wi-Fi is available.
There are also a number of recently renovated premium houses available.
Nyveien has two double and two single rooms with a sofa bed. There is a living room with television and a fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The house also has a bathroom with shower and sauna.
Ringveien 5 is beautifully situated with a fantastic view of the Murmansk Bay and mountains. It is divided into two apartments. The lower floor apartment has four bedrooms with a total of six beds. The upper floor apartment has three bedrooms with five beds. It also has a large balcony with outdoor furniture.
Both apartments have a fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. They have a living room with television and Wi-Fi.
Holmeveien has four double bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with a shower. There are two living rooms with television and fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher and fridge/freezer.
All properties are a 10-minute walking distance to the grocery store and gas station and a 2 to 4-minute walking distance to boats. The camp has a restaurant on site offering a simple menu of locally sourced food and drinks; including Macköl on tap from the World’s Northernmost brewery in Tromso. Magnificent views of the mountains and sea can be admired whilst enjoying your meal in the outdoor dining area. The restaurant also has a large screen television and various events are organised including live music, buffets and football evenings.
At the jetty, there is a cleaning area under a roof with running water, cutting boards and a packaging bench. Directly adjacent is a spacious freezer room where the fish is stored at -18°C until the journey home. There are always Styrofoam boxes that are approved for air transport up to 20kg, which can be purchased at camp. Tackle and flotation suits can be hired. Other facilities at the camp include a sauna and Jacuzzi.
Boats and equipment
The standard boats used are the Arronet 23.5ft with 150hp four-stroke engine. They have a chart plotter, echo sounder, VHF radio, rod holder, grappling hooks/gaff, halibut hook, tail rope, emergency flare and other safety equipment. Boats are fully fuelled upon arrival and must be returned fully fuelled. All boats are equipped with a tracking system from Dualog that updates the latest position at 10 minute intervals.
Travel to Soroya
From the UK, you typically fly to Tromso via Oslo. This often requires an overnight hotel stay in Tromso on the outbound journey, costing approximately £120 per room per night (please add this to your overall travel budget). You can travel to Soroya in different ways. There are two daily flights from Oslo to Hasvik Airport on Soroya, with a stopover in Tromso. We recommend taking the morning departure from Oslo, which arrives in Hasvik at 15:43.
From Hasvik Airport, we can arrange transfers (pre-booked by email) to the camp (approximately 40 minutes). The transfer bus typically stops at the grocery store, giving you the opportunity to purchase supplies for your first few days. For your return journey, we suggest booking the 08:35 departure from Hasvik to Oslo (via Tromso).
Flights can be booked directly through Widerøe or Scandinavian Airlines. We strongly recommend booking well in advance, as fares are generally lower the earlier you book.
Alternatively, you can fly to Alta, rent a car, and take the ferry from Oksfjord to Soroya. This option is ideal if you would like access to a car during your stay, especially for sightseeing around the island or fishing for trout and Arctic char in the mountain lakes.
On selected dates in 2027, the camp may operate a combined road and ferry transfer from Alta; however, this is not yet confirmed.
Weather & Fishing Information
Soroya is a large island in the far northwest of Norway. Weather conditions can be unpredictable, and the island is less sheltered from westerly winds than some other fishing destinations.
During spring and summer, you can expect to catch Cod, Halibut, Coalfish, Haddock, Redfish, and Wolffish. The monster cod are most commonly caught in March and April, though weather conditions during this period can be highly variable.
For more stable weather, the period from May to September is generally recommended.
